It's always a pain to get up from a comfortable position and walk over to the computer just to change the volume or play the next episode. This is why the remote control was invented for the TV, and with Mouse Server, you can have a remote control for the PC as well. It works together with a mobile app, which turns your phone or tablet into a trackpad, keyboard and handy control utility for various applications, including browsers and media players. It's an excellent tool for those moments when you're just too comfortable to get up and walk to your computer.

Besides installing Mouse Server on your computer, you will need to install WiFi Mouse on your iOS or Android device. Both the desktop server and the mobile app are free but in exchange for you agreeing to let the program use some of your unused resources. Fortunately, it's not mandatory, so it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.

There's not much to say about Mouse Server's desktop user interface. It presents your local IP address, along with options for setting the server to run automatically, use a cloud ID and to password-protect your desktop, to prevent other people from taking control of your desktop. Additionally, the software provides quick navigation options to webpages where you can find the mobile app.

Running Mouse Server on your computer and WiFi Mouse on your mobile device is all you have to do. At this moment, you will be able to use your phone as a trackpad and as a keyboard. Just like on a trackpad, a tap is interpreted as a click, but you can also find graphical representations of the left, right and middle mouse buttons, which will make clicking and dragging much easier. The keyboard works as you'd expect, but it also comes with support for voice input. This means that you can just speak into your phone if you don't like typing on a touchscreen.

Besides controlling the mouse cursor and typing, you can also use the WiFi Mouse app to quickly launch programs on your computer or go to web addresses on your default web browser. Of course, one of the most important features is the possibility of controlling media players, like VLC or even Spotify. We all know the frustration of having to change the volume because it's either too loud or too soft, so you will definitely appreciate the fact that you can change the volume, skip an intro or pause the movie while sitting comfortably, away from your computer.

The possibility of doing everything on your computer with a remote control definitely makes Mouse Server worth looking at.

Pros

You can move the mouse, type and launch applications on your computer from your mobile device. The software is exceptionally easy to set up. It supports both iOS and Android devices.

Cons

The software will ask you to allow it to use idle resources for the benefit of others, which could make an antivirus light up like a Christmas tree. Fortunately, agreeing is not mandatory.
